COUNTERFEITING - A TRUE THREAT TO BUILDING AND SUSTAINING A GLOBAL BRAND NAME’S EQUITY

Abstract: Abs e aim of this paper is to present a global character of the counterfeiting and propose actions to the authorities, and owners of brands and products that should be taken against the counterfeiters. In the first part, we will elaborate on the global scope counterfeiting and reveal the presence of counterfeited famous brands. Then, we will assess the legal implications of counterfeiting of products and brands. In addition, we will point to technological changes that enable the creation of all the sophisticated counterfeits that threaten the survival of original products with globally recognizable brand names. Finally, we will present the cases of counterfeiting activities in Serbia and actions of Serbian companies which are trying to avoid reducing the value of their own brands.
